small meaningful things

displaying different post types on tag archives

a log of this website's changes

When we click on a tag on this website, an archive of posts tagged with that particular tag is displayed. To be honest almost nobody clicks on them except myself, but recently as I age (I guess I’ll be typing this very often) I am beginning to think these small quality of life improvements are important. just like one paper cut is no big deal, but they all add up. Apart from the writing itself I actually use this website quite a bit, so it matters even if I am improving nobody else’s user experience except my own.

Here is how it was like before:

screenshot of previous tag archive before changes.

From the above screenshot the post that is titled “attended a risograph workshop” is actually an instagram post, but it is displayed like a regular post with an excerpt. Hence I made a couple of changes:

Now, the meta label on top that used to say “note” says “note [instagram]”, and the photo shows up instead of the excerpt. I also reduced the font size of the headings for both instagram notes and highlights, leaving regular text posts’ headings to be larger.

The url used for this example is: http://winnielim.org/tag/creativity/ .

Additionally I also created a new category of notes titled “changelog” to document this website’s changes, so I can display them as an archive later. I used to do it manually via a static page.
